Guest Post - The Very Best Summer Cocktail

Ladies, today I have Lindsay over at Lindsay's Sweet World guest posting for me today. Lindsay is a mama of two beautiful children, Jacob and Olivia, a wife to Brian and a full time working woman. She has the best style (I love her monthly What I Wore posts), sweetest demeanor and a love for cookie cakes (a treat they have for every birthday they celebrate)!

Take it away Lindsay.

Hey y'all! I'm Lindsay and I blog over at Lindsay's Sweet World. It is such a pleasure to be blogging over here in Danielle's little corner of the internet today. I've been following along with her for some time now, so it's really freaking awesome to be doing a post for her. Plus, this just so happens to be my very first guest post ever, and I'm really honored to be doing it here!

I thought it would be fun to post about something that would put y'all in a beachy and summery frame of mind since Danielle is currently in the land of sand, sun, and margaritas! That lucky girl! Every Spring, when the warm breezes start blowing, the flowers start blooming, and the sun starts setting a little later each night, I get the itch to trade in my usual red wine for a cold, crisp cocktail. I live in the south (I'm sure you probably already realized that from all of the y'alls) and y'all (see, there it is again!), it gets hot down here! So cold cocktails and ice cold beer are our drinks of choice during those sizzling summer months.

There are tons of drink recipes on Pinterest that I've been wanting to try, so I took this as an opportunity to DRINK ALL THE COCKTAILS! Just kidding. But I did make one of the recipes, and you guys, I think I have a new favorite.

Enter the Vodka Strawberry Lemonade

Use It
Small saucepan
Blender

Buy It
1/2 cup fresh strawberries
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice

Make It

1/ Combine sugar, water, and strawberries in the saucepan and simmer until sugar dissolves.

2/ Pour mixture into the blender and puree until smooth.

3/ Add lemon juice, water, and vodka and mix well.

4/ Serve over ice in cocktail glasses and get drunk enjoy.
All photos from Lindsay's Sweet World

This recipe makes 2 delicious servings and you're going to want to make it over and over and over.

Danielle, we are all jealous of you and can't wait to have you back! Safe travels and Viva la Mexico!

Thank you Lindsay for sharing this amazing recipe. I love vodka (it's my favorite liquor) and I love strawberries, so this is right up my alley. I can't wait to make this and enjoy it on a hot Spring/Summer day. And those wine glasses are to die for. I love glitter and sparkle everything and must have these or make them.

Vacation Confessional Thursday

Even though I am on vacation, I couldn't pass up another round of Confessions. So join me today in linking up with Jessica from The Newly for Confessional Thursday.

I confess that I am enjoying my vacation way too much. This vacation was much needed. I have been stressing about life (mainly money) and this is what the doctor ordered (or my husband). Plus we are able to have a proper goodbye to Rory's great aunt.

I confess that I finally feel more confident in my postpartum body. I have spent months at the gym, trying to eat better, having umbilical hernia surgery and getting my booty moving and I feel like it has paid off. The biggest part of it was the surgery. The confidence my doctor gave me by giving me an innie, making the pain go away and sewing my abs shut has done wonder. I am rocking a bikini as we speak in Mexico. Thank you Dr. Murphy.

I confess that even more work travel has been added to my agenda. Stay tuned on where I will be traveling. Next week will be a test run to see how I, the girls and Rory do with me being gone. Wish us all luck.

I confess that I am so grateful for everyone who has done a guest post this week and the ones that are coming up next week. You ladies rock and I am so thankful to have you in my blogging tribe.

I confess that Pearl and Monroe Boutique has been killing it lately in their Spring/Summer clothes and it is taking everything in me to not buy it all. The t-shirt dresses, button up tanks and maxis are too cute to pass up. I have been rocking my peach kimono in Mexico all week!

And those are my confessions. Short and sweet. I hope you all have an amazing Thursday and upcoming weekend. Come back tomorrow for Lindsay's guest post. It involves an amazing cocktail!

Baby Registry Must Haves and a Baby Shower Gift Basket

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #NurseryMusts   #CollectiveBias

I haven't spilled the beans yet (on here), but my sister-in-law is pregnant with her first child and she is due in July. We are over the moon excited for her and her family.

Since she is a first time mom, she wasn't too sure on what she really needs versus what is a luxury item. She lives in the city, in an apartment and doesn't have much room. She needs to be prudent in what she chooses. Since I have two little ones and space is limited when you have two, she asked me for help with the MUST HAVE items for her registry list.

I have complied a list of my top registry items from my favorite store Target, and some of these items will be making an appearance in her baby shower gift basket. We all know my love affair for Target and it's easy one stop shopping.

Bottles
I have spent more time and money on bottles than I care to admit. Since my girls were preemies, spent time in the NICU and had latch issues, we only breastfed for a short time. We relied on bottles to give them my breast milk and then formula. My girls were a little gassy from drinking milk from the bottle, so we were always searching for bottles designed to reduce gas and Colic. With the Playtex VentAire Bottles, it has a vent on the bottle that reduces indigestion and it sits at an angled position to promote an upright feeding feeling which is said to prevent ear infections. This is something I want to share with my sister-in-law in hopes she doesn't have to buy a bunch of wasteful bottles.
I found the Playtex VentAire Bottles down the bottle and bottle accessories aisle.

I recommend getting two sizes (6 oz and 9 oz), so you do not have to run out during the first few months when it is hard to get out of the house and go buy those coveted items.

Bottle Accessories
Along with the bottles comes the accessories. You will want extra nipples, a bottle cleaning brush, a bottle/accessories drying station and a bottle cleanser.

Diaper Genie
When you have one, two, three or more little ones, you need something to keep that pesky smell away that comes along with changing diapers. Enter the Diaper Genie Diaper Pail Complete. The Diaper Genie has been around forever and was always the brand my friends and mom recommended when keeping the stink away. The charcoal filter combined with the airtight lid prevents odors from escaping. The bags are made with a 7-layer plastic which controls the smell as well. Plus the pail holds 270 dirty diapers! When you live in a small apartment and don't have the time to run out to the trash can each time you change a diaper, the Diaper Genie will save you that precious time and the smell.
I found my Diaper Genie Complete down the aisle with diaper changing items and baby monitors.

Diapers
We all know that diapers are a must have and stocking up on them is essential. At my baby shower, my mom did a diaper raffle. Basically, this is where you bring a sleeve of diapers and you are given a raffle ticket to win prizes. This is an easy way for the parents to be to stock up on diapers and different varieties because you never know which ones will work for your little one. We tried three brands and found the ones that work perfect for us. Request newborn, size 1, 2 and even 3.

Pacifiers
Some people are against pacifiers, but I found that they were a lifesaver with my girls. The NICU used them to help the girls learn to suck, swallow and breathe at the same time and we still use them. They help soothe your baby when they are fussy, at nap time and when they sleep at night. I would recommend getting 2 to 4 per baby. Just in case you lose or misplace one.

A Good Set of Nail Clippers
We have gone through two pairs of nail clippers and I can not stress enough that you need a quality pair of baby nail clippers. Spend the extra few dollars and get a quality pair. I found that clipping the babies nails was easier and less time consuming than filing them down.

Swaddle Blankets
We used swaddle blankets from day one. The NICU nurses taught us how to swaddle the girls and we never turned back. We still use the swaddle blankets, but now as blankets that the girls take to daycare to cuddle with. They are soft, stretchy and last forever. I can't wait to help teach my sister-in-law to swaddle her new bundle of joy.

Some other registry essentials to add to your list:
A stroller
Baby carrier
Car seat
Car seat cover
Compact changing table
Changing pad
Changing pad covers
Waterproof pad (to go over the changing pad cover, so you don't have to change the cover as often)
Clothes (zip up sleepers, onesies and a few outfits)
Crib (mini crib if you are in a small apartment), bassinet or co-sleeper
Crib mattress
Crib sheets
Baby laundry detergent
Light and white noise sound machine
Baby shampoo/body wash
Baby bath
Washcloths
Baby towels
Wipes

When you are putting your basket together, consider the gender (we don't know my sister-in-laws), space and overall feel you want to create. First, gather or buy a basket that is big enough to fit your items. Next, fill your basket with the items making sure you can see all of the items. Finally, add a gender specific ribbon or a gender neutral bow to complete the look.

All of these items can be found in the infant/toddler section at Target.

Did I forget any baby registry essentials? If you're shopping for a first time mom, don't forget to add the Diaper Genie Complete and Playtex VentAire Bottles to your shopping list!

Guest Post - Toddler Approved Summer Activities

You are all in for a treat today. I have Jennifer over at Jenuine Happiness guest posting for me today. Jennifer and I became fast friends through blogging and have bonded over our children. She has the most adorable 18 month old boy, Ben. I love watching him grow up and see what I can look forward to with our girls as they get older. Jennifer is a rockstar mom who has beaten cancer and she is an inspiration to me.

Hi, my name is Jennifer and I blog over at Jenuine Happiness!  I am a huge fan of Danielle, her family and her blog. She is so much fun to follow along with, and I'm very excited to guest post on her slice of the internet. A little more about me: I was a journalism major and worked in corporate communications within the healthcare industry as well as the food/beverage industry. After the birth of our 18-month old son, Benjamin (often affectionately referred to as our Benny Boy) I became a stay-at-home-Momma. About two years ago, with our beloved dog Otis in tow, we made the move from Charlotte, North Carolina to our beautiful town of Hudson, Ohio to be closer to family, and we love it! Obviously, with a one and a half year old, much of our time is spent filling our days and weekends with activities geared toward Ben. So, I thought I'd take a moment to share some Spring/Summertime Activities for Toddlers.

Where to Get News

One of the most difficult things is simply finding events in your area, but it doesn't have to be!

- Our town actually has a traditional bi-weekly newspaper (perfectly quaint and old-school) that lists area activities. If your specific town doesn't have a newspaper, then it might be worth checking a more regional paper.

Parent magazines are often a great resource for kid-friendly events. You can usually pick these up at the front of your local grocery stores. However, rather than making a trip to find one, just check the website. Our Parent magazine is Northeast Ohio Parent.

Local events websites are created just to keep you updated on local activities. The website I visit is Northeast Ohio Family Fun. Honestly, this is where I find most of our upcoming activities.

- Don't be afraid to join community groups either. We have an organization called Hudson Preschool Parent. For $25 a year you are granted access to countless free events in town, discounts for local activities, group field trips and probably most importantly a monthly hard copy newsletter (with a calendar of events included).

- And, if those options don't work, then social media to the rescue! Your town and/or region is bound to have a Facebook group dedicated to kid-friendly events in your area. Just try typing your town and Mom's group or something to that effect in the "Search" box. Hopefully you'll be connected to some families that live close to you too. And, while you're at it, follow some of your local organizations on Facebook because they are bound to share upcoming activities that they will be participating in.

Spring/Summertime Activities

- PARKS! This one seems fairly obvious, but your parent website magazine probably has a list compiled of the best parks in a certain mile radius. Our town is filled with parks, and without the website I would probably not know that half of them existed. As the weather warms up, you can't beat a free spot to let your toddler(s) blow off some energy.

- Parades. These are often forgotten about or overlooked, but they are some of my favorite summertime activities. Don't let Memorial Day pass by with at least looking up local parades. Grab a Popsicle or ice cream cone and watch your little ones eyes light up as the local high school marching band comes by.

- Swimming. Most kids, toddlers included, want to play in the water during the summer. Memberships to local pools/country clubs can be costly, but most of them offer days where you can come for a reduced rate to check them out. Look for these discounts and give a few a try this summer. That way you don't have to make a financial commitment while your little one is still too young to really swim. Also, if you aren't comfortable letting your baby in the pool quite yet, then invest in a water table or sprinkler for your own yard. Countless hours of outdoor fun will ensue.

- Zoos. You would be hard pressed to find a kid that doesn't love the zoo. Between the lions, tigers and bears, oh my is there a lot to do at the zoo! We were gifted a membership to the Akron Zoo. If you do have a zoo membership, be sure to check what discounts that membership gets you at other zoos. You often get half price tickets at other zoos, so if you are visiting family somewhere, it is worth looking into. If your little one is big enough, check the zoo website because they often have scavenger hunts or other activities available for your visit.

- Themed/Holiday Events. Trust me, if there is a holiday or theme for communities/companies to capitalize on, then they probably will be doing so. Mother's Day, Memorial Day, Father's Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, etc. are all reasons for places to celebrate. For example, our town does a sweet Mother's Day event in our town square. Kids are invited to do crafts and celebrate Mom. You can do some shopping while your there too!

- Weekend Music Nights. Summer is the perfect excuse to get outside! Most shopping developments and/or community commons will host music on the green (or something to that effect). Pack a picnic, and sit outside in the summer breeze to some cover jams. The best part is that these are typically fairly family-oriented, so little ones running around like hooligans is totally acceptable.

- Drive-in Movies. This was our secret date night last summer/fall. If you have a good sleeper on your hands, then this is a definite possibility for you. We're lucky enough to have a drive-in not too far away, and Ben will usually just sleep in the back. If your kids are a little older, then they will love getting to watch a movie in the car. Also, it's the perfect compromise because if they have a mid-movie breakdown...you're not bother anyone.

- Library Events. Your local/regional library probably is very tapped into the community and might on occasion even host events. Our library has some great outdoor activities, including a "touch-a-truck" event that invites all the BIG trucks in town to a nearby parking lot for kids to explore and literally touch all of the vehicles. If you aren't a library member, then you should check yours out!

- Baseball Games. Take your family out to a ball game! You probably have a Major or Minor League team in your area (or somewhat close by). Between the game, mascot, seventh inning stretch, hot dogs and ice cream...baseball is fun for the whole family.

- Berry Picking. The local farms are the perfect backdrop to sunshine-filled days of berry picking. Blueberries, raspberries and strawberries all have a season, so make sure to look up the fruit of your choice.

A highlight of our activities last summer.

What to Bring

Although you might not have a baby bag anymore, you still need to be prepared for summer outings. Here are a few things you should make sure you have:

Food! Even if you are going to get food. Bring food. If you bring something that you know your little one likes, then you have a safe backup.

A diaper. Whether you think it's going to be a quick trip, or your going to a pool...still bring an extra diaper and wet wipes. You'll probably need them.

A life-jacket. If you are going somewhere with water, whether it is a pool or on a boat ride, bring a life-jacket.

A change of clothes for baby (and yourself). It's always good to have an extra outfit in the car in case your toddler makes a mess. Summer is fun, but often brings mud, ice cream spills and grass stains with it ;) That also means you might need a change of clothes too.

Your camera! If you're anything like me, then capturing these special moments is critical. At the end of the summer you can put together a photo book and remember all the awesome events you participated in during the Summer of 2016.

No matter what summer activities you choose to tackle, remember that you have a toddler in tow, so plans may not go exactly as planned. If you're able to make it work, then great! However, if you need to come back another day, then don't be afraid to change up your plans a bit. If you have any activities that have worked well for you and your little one(s) please make sure to share!

Thank you Jennifer for sharing these amazing Spring and Summer activities. I can't wait to do these with my girls!

Mommylogue Guest Post

Ladies, today you are in for a real treat because I am guest posting over at Work It Mommy. When Whitney started her Mommylogue series, I knew I wanted to contribute to it.

When I delivered my sweet baby girls, I experienced major birth trauma. I didn't know how to describe what I experienced, how I was feeling or how to overcome it. I researched it a bit and didn't find a lot of information, so I wanted to write about my experience in hopes it helps other women out.

So PLEASE head on over to Whitney's blog, Work It Mommy and check out my guest post.

Friday's Five - Vacation Is Here

It's Friday and as you are reading this, I am either up at 3am getting ready to head to the airport or in the throws of traveling with two toddlers. Wish us luck. I can't wait to share my travels with you all and a tips/guide to traveling with toddlers.

I am linking up with Karli and April.

One. I FINALLY bought a dress for the wedding at the end of this month. I had every intention on renting one, but I waited until last weekend to make the purchase (I was trying to find better coupon codes). The Kate Spade dress was still there in my size, but my back up size was gone. No worries, I would just settle on my size and the one below just in case. And then on Instagram, a shop that I follow and was going to buy the beautiful blue backless dress from was having a sale and had new dresses in. I found two dresses that were very Spring like and that I loved. Plus the price with the 25% discount they were offering was...$59. A steal and less than my Rent the Runway dress with discount and shipping ($80). Here is the beauty that I will be wearing and arrived at my doorstep on Wednesday (it's beautiful in person!).

And I can wear my blush heels from Nathalie's wedding with it. I can't wait to wear this beauty. What do you think?

Two. I received a makeup VoxBox from Influenster and it was filled with three lipsticks from The Amuse Bouche Collection. Whenever we have an event, date night or girls night, I get the chance to pretty myself up with one of these lipsticks. So far my favorite is beetroot, but pepper is a close second.

Three. Stefanie over at Lexie Loo, Lily, Liam and Dylan Too, recommended these bibs for toddlers who are messy eaters. I seriously can't wait to buy them since our girls are constantly staining their clothes (stain stick is a staple in our house) with food. She says you can use them for painting and craft projects too. Sign me up! And 2 for $10 is a steal. I can't wait for mine to arrive.

Four. I have a bunch of guest posts coming your way in the next two weeks. Everything from toddler activities to a yummy cocktail recipe. You will definitely want to check out all of these amazing ladies. On Monday, I will be doing a guest post over at Work it Mommy where I bare my soul. I will be talking about my birth trauma, how it affected me and ways of dealing with it. Please check it out.

Five. Missed my posts this week? Catch up below.

Confessional Thursday

Today is one of my favorite post days, Confessional Thursday. A day where I can bitch and moan and confess. Something we all need to do now and again.

Wanna join in on the fun? Grab the button below, write about your confessions and head over to Jess' blog, The Newly and link up. Super easy.

I confess that I am super excited to eat ALL the avocado I can get my hands on in the next week. Bring on the guac!

I confess that I should have been packing Tuesday night, but I went to girls night instead. My girlfriend opened her house to us (she recently moved in) where we played Fibbage (so much fun), drank wine and had tri-tip tacos. Much needed for my soul.

I confess that my sweet husband let me go to girls night instead of him going to the minor league baseball game (in the box seats) and I am so grateful. Beyond grateful. Sometimes a mama needs her friends and a good confess sesh with them. So thank you babe.

I confess that prepping for a consignment sale doesn't seem worth it, but I really hope it brings in the cash. I spent all weekend and part of this week hanging, tagging, pricing and prepping a few bags of the girls clothes. I barely touched the winter stuff. That will have to wait for the next one.

I confess that I am getting nervous to fly with the girls. I really hope they are happy, sweet and sleepy babies on our long fight because I don't want to be THOSE parents that everyone gives the stink eye too.

I confess that I won't miss work at all this next week. I can't wait to have my toes in the sand, a margarita in hand and sunshine shining down on me.

I confess that I hated spending over an hour on the phone with United Airlines because they bumped me from my seat on one of our flights (SF to PV). First, the lady changed me to an exit row which I can't be in due to having Sutton on my lap. The second lady moved us into Economy Plus right behind each other. It sucks that we won't be sitting across from each other, but it is better than the regular economy seats we had before. Our first flight seats were changed as well, but it is a short 30 minute flight. Let's hope the rest of our seats stay the same and everything goes smoothly.
