A Long Weekend

Another weekend in the books. And it was a good one. It wasn't long enough, but they never are.

Friday after work we got the girls passports taken care of. Finally. And without a hitch. This is a huge weight lifted from us as we were cutting it close per the in take person. We leave in less than 8 weeks and want to make sure we get them in time. Nothing like waiting until the last minute.

After the passports, we grabbed a quick bite to eat and headed home to feed the girls. Then I went and got my hair done and it was much needed. I needed the time to catch up with Kyra, the time to relax while my color set and the pampering that comes along with getting my hair done.

Then we headed out to our Valentine's date. We tried to go to a new restaurant (2 months old), but they were packed, so we headed to Centro. This is an Italian tapas restaurant with seasonally changing menus. It is one of our favorites. We started off with the Fall Salad (no picture) which had butternut squash, kale, pickled apple, shaved shallot, goat cheese and a toasted pecan vinaigrette. Then we had their daily tacos which had pork, a slaw and a delicious sauce on it. Next up was the filthy fries which had beer cheese, cotija cheese, braised short ribs, crispy bacon, sweet cherry peppers, drop peppers and balsamic glaze. Then we had the Southern quail which was a beer battered quail, fried pickles, fried quail egg, shiracha aoli and a smoked tomato chip. Next was the short rib stroganoff which had orzo pasta, mushroom duxell, cranberry demi, goat cheese, confit veggies and a micro green salad. We finished everything off (after a good 30 minutes in between) with the pumpkin creme brulee. It seems like a lot, but it is all small plates shared between two. It was the perfect amount of food. So good.

After dinner, we walked to a bar to have a night cap and enjoy our evening out just a little longer.

It was the perfect evening out.

Saturday morning we headed to breakfast and we headed to Target to grab a few things we needed. We were able to try out the girls new stroller (from Christmas) and it was a huge hit. As you can tell from the picture below.

That afternoon we took Walter and the girls on a long walk. I was able to use my new Garmin to track our distance, steps and course. Loving my new Vivoactive. The girls were pretty tired after the walk and Avery ended up napping on me. I cherish these moments so much because they won't want to do this for much longer.

Rory headed to a basketball game and we worked on our standing skills.

We also have been trying new foods and loving to use our hands to eat everything. Waffles were a huge this weekend.

Rory brought home dinner for us that evening and we caught up on some tv shows and went to bed early.

Sunday morning (Valentine's Day) we went to breakfast (again), ran more errands and took another walk. This time we walked to the coffee shop and frozen yogurt shop. We walked over three miles round trip and it was awesome. The weather was perfect all weekend. I went grocery shopping and that evening we stayed in. We gave the girls cards, some clothes and things for Mexico as their Valentine's gifts. I made dinner that night while Rory built a fire. We put the girls to bed after their dinner and enjoyed a quiet dinner with wine and the movie Burnt to top it off. It was the best Valentine's Day I could have asked for.

Monday was President's Day and we had it off, so we went to breakfast again, ran a few more errands and relaxed. We took another long walk and capped the evening off with Better Call Saul and The Bachelor.

How was your weekend?

13 Month and Toddler Favorites

My girls are 13 1/2 months now. Crazy how fast time is flying by us. Soon we will be in Mexico (and hopefully the girls will be walking by then) followed by our annual trip to Graeagle in June. We will go from massive amounts of snow (keep it coming in the mountains) to beautiful Tahoe beaches in the summer. I for one, can not wait.

But back to my girls, they are into everything. Exploring, eating new foods and playing all the time. I thought I share with you all my girls current favorites. Some of these have been their favorites for a long time and some of them are newer.
13 Month Favorites

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 (similar) 10

One. Their vintage kitchen continues to be a favorite. The girls are always playing. They are banging the dishes on the stove, opening and closing doors, taking stuff out and putting it back in the doors (fridge, oven, etc). They love this gift.

Two. A fellow twin mom got the girls this ride on elephant and it is a favorite. If the girls are grumpy, put them on the elephant and push them around. If they are happy, do the same. They love riding along on the elephant and we end up pushing them around the house on it. They also love the sounds and the fact that the seat bounces. The elephant gets a lot of use at our house.

Three. This ball tower was a gift from Christmas. The girls love this tower. They will put the balls in top over and over again. And mommy and daddy know ALL the words to the songs and learning buttons. Even the kids (who ranged from 2 to 5) at their birthday party played with this all day.

Four. Our girls love their pacis. Well, Avery LOVES it. Sutton likes it when she sleeps or when she is teething. And these paci clips are key for keeping the paci off the ground. We have tried a few of them and these are the ones we like best.

Five. The rubber blocks are a hit at our house. The girls grandparents got them for Christmas and they love them. They squeak when you squeeze them and the girls love stacking them and knocking them down. Especially when we build them up really high. They also like when we squeeze them and blow the air in their faces.

Six. This play yard has been our life saver. At first, we used it to corral them, but after a rough day, I broke it apart and put sections in the places we wanted to keep them away from. Like in front of the fire (or block the fire place area off if we have a fire going), blocking the kitchen or anywhere we need. The girls love the freedom and can't get into areas that aren't safe or where they shouldn't be.

Seven. The Wubba Nub. Again, our girls love their pacis and nighttime they get their Nubs. They used to carry these everywhere, but now they stay in their cribs. Since it has the animal on the end you can tuck it into a swaddle (when they were younger) or find it easily in the middle of the night.

Eight. These Patagonia jackets are kind of expensive, but so worth it. Our girls had ones at 3 months and now 12 months and they run big. They keep the girls warm, are very durable and so cute.

Nine. These boot socks are awesome. We have these ones and ones that snap (and the ones that snap come with a gripper on the bottom for walkers). These and the moccasins (from freshly picked) are the only things we can keep on the girls feet anymore. They always pull their socks off.

Ten. I have shown this no rinse soap/lotion before, and I am showing it again. We love this stuff. Recently when the girls have blow outs (having them now that they are on a Miralax regimen), this stuff helps get them clean(er) until we can give them a bath. It is great for wiping their faces, necks and bodies in between bath days. LOVE this stuff.

It's Weekend Time

It's Friday and we are looking at a three day weekend. I am so excited. The weather should be in the low 60s here, so we are going to take advantage of being outside most of the weekend.

I am linking up with Karli and April as always.

One. Since I am not getting my boobs done until October (read here), I need to find a new bikini. Or at least a new bikini top. And I was blog reading this week and Darcy from A Memory of Us posted this beauty.

I am also looking at this one from VS.

And if I could splurge, I would get this one that Madison recommended.

Two. Here is to hoping that we CAN get the girls passports today. We have tried three times now, so hopefully this is lucky #4. We have an appointment, we have the girls photos and the applications filled out. Now to get them done. Please oh please let us get them sent off. We are leaving for Mexico in 8 weeks. Not much time people.
 Yelapa

Three. My umbilical hernia surgery is all set. I will be having surgery on Friday February 26th, my parents anniversary. And my sweet parents have volunteered to take me to my surgery so Rory can go to work and the girls to daycare. That way once I am out, I can relax at home and get the rest I will need. I have my pre-op on Wednesday February 24th to go over everything, have lab work done and get my prescriptions. My belly button should be looking amazing by the time we head to Mexico.

Four. My Simply Fit Board arrived Wednesday night. I bought it after seeing it on Lindsay's blog. I wanted something to use at home (other than the stretching and push ups I do at home), and something that I could bust out in 10 minutes. So after my husband headed to the Nevada basketball game, I opened it and got started. I really liked it and can't wait to use it (hopefully) every evening.

Five. This week we bought the girls a toy bin organizer. We were going to build them one since it seemed cheaper than the $55 plus I was seeing online, but then we happened to go into Home Depot and found them on clearance. For $19.00. Yes you read that right. Total score. Amazon has them for $54.99 (originally $120.00). We only bought one until we can see if we have room for more. And they get really good reviews.

Hope you have a good weekend!

Confessional Thursday

It's Thursday and Jessica (from The Newly) is bringing back the Confessions link up that Leslie (from A Blonde Ambition) used to do every Friday. Except we are now doing them on Thursdays since we already participate in so many Friday link ups.

I for one, missed the confessions, so I am very excited that it is back. Want to join in? Write your post and head over to The Newly and link up.

And these are my confessions (sung like Usher's Confessions. Please tell me you all remember this song.).

I confess I am very sore from my workout yesterday. It was my first time at the gym this week (due to awful food poisoning) and it kicked my butt, but in a good way.  And I am thinking of doing a drop in for the spin class (new gym) to see if it can even come half way close to my old gyms amazing class.

I confess that I have been really awful at drinking water since my food poisoning incident. I have a water club at work and I am constantly going back to grab water (and get my steps in), but I haven't been motivated. Coffee or dehydration have won this week. I need to step up my water game here.

I confess that I have felt like a mommy failure this week. My girls are dragging me through the ringer. One day they like purees and a few finger foods. The next they only want finger foods. The next they only want their milk. And so on. And I am trying to make sure they eat enough to keep them regular (so we don't end up back in the ER). Plus they are teething (molars) and so unhappy in the evenings. They want their Cheerios (or whatever we are having), then their bottle and then bedtime. They went from standing, slowly scaling things and walking with a walker to barely wanting to stand. I blame it on the RSV, ear infections and then severe constipation. Plus they have lost weight from all the sickness. I just felt like failure this week when it comes to meeting their needs.

I confess that I am in desperate need of a girls night out. I haven't had one in about three weeks. I know my girls are busy (so am I), but I am hoping to get together with them sometime next week. Wine, girl talk and relaxation.

I confess that I am really excited for my upcoming work trips. I have two planned and the first one is to Tel Aviv, Israel. I have never been and the middle east scares me a bit, but I heard it is an amazing place to visit. Plus this will be my first time I have been away from my babies for more than a night. I don't know how I feel about that yet, so send me your words of encouragement or tips on handling it.

I confess that I am exhausted. Babies please sleep an entire night through (the both of you). This week long waking up at 3 am has got to stop. Please and thank you.

I confess that I am absolutely giddy with how much love I get from this blog. I have met (not in person, but hopefully in the future) so many amazing women through this blogging community and it pushes me to be a better person, mom and wife. So thank you so much.

Breast Augmentation Update

So now that I have had my three consultations for Breast Augmentation, here is what I found and experienced. And if you don't want TMI or to read about my breasts, just skip this post.

Dr. Murphy (appointment February 3rd):
After I arrived and was taken back to a room, I undressed waist up and changed into a nice comfy robe. They had a large tv screen set up to view information on breast augmentations (types of implants, types of incisions, a video, a gallery, complications, what to expect, etc.).

Dr. Murphy's nurse came in to do an initial exam and gather more information from me. She was super nice and informative. Then Dr. Murphy came in. He examined my chest and said I was borderline in either having just a breast augmentation or a breast augmentation with a benelli (donut lift). Warning: a bit TMI, so move on if you don't want to know about my boobs. See after breast feeding and pumping for my girls, they deflated a ton. Like 34D to 34 small B. And my nipples are lower from it too. They are right at the fold of the boob if you measure back towards your armpits. So they could do a regular augmentation and hope that they look great and my nipple position still makes them perky. Or I could go with the benelli which means they would cut around my areola to remove excess skin and pull it tighter (only lifting the nipple/areola area) and add implants in. I want to go back to a D which means I am borderline.

To be safe, they recommended the benelli (but it is a riskier operation...chances of the nipple/areola dying and not many surgeons like to do it or are willing to perform it.). This means cost goes way up. For pre-op, surgery, surgery center, the implants, doctor fees, anesthesia and post-op care, it would cost $10,000. Ouch. I was expecting $6,000 because my boobs are so small and don't really need a lift. And they don't need a lift. The areola/nipple area MIGHT.

He also noticed my belly button hernia. Like right away. Not just because of the scar, but he said you have an umbilical hernia. I told him I HAD one and had surgery last June. He said either it has reoccurred (stitches broken, didn't take, needed mesh) or I had a double hernia which my doctor and him if he had done it originally, wouldn't have caught. If it was the double hernia, one part was fixed and the other lies in the tubular part of my belly button. He had me do leg lifts and could feel the bulge. He also had me stand and could feel it. But when I lay down, it goes back in. So I do have one and it needs to be repaired before I change insurance plans. So I have to get that done before end of June.

So I will either get my umbilical hernia fixed ASAP (within a week or two from now) and wait on the boob job for 6 months to a year to save more or get my boobs done now.

Dr. Talbott (appointment February 9th): I arrived at Talbotts office and was taken back to a comfy room where I was able to watch tv and wait. Dr. Talbott came in shortly after and we started discussing breast augmentation. She showed me a silicone gel implant, showed me how durable it is, talked about research into silicone gel implants and the types of cuts she makes. She told me she did a local appearance where they debunked the fears of silicone gel by having someone stab the implant and seeing what would happen IF one ruptured inside of you.

I went over my history of breastfeeding, pumping, my abscess and my future plans. We talked in depth about my abscess and what happened, so she could better understand my scar and our game plan.

Then she had me change into a robe while she went to get some photos and more information. When she came back, she did an exam on me. She did several measurements (from my collar bone to my breast, the width of my aerolas, the length from my nipples down, the length in between, the length of my breast and so on. She told me I was an ideal candidate for breast augmentation and I didn't have much sag from breastfeeding.

She then told me she would want to do the cut under the breast because she didn't want to risk infection in my aerola because I had mastitis and a breast abscess which means I am more susceptible to infection in my breast ducts. She also said we would go behind the muscle for a cleaner, real look. We talked size and she told me that based on what I want, we would put in expanders, fill them with saline, then she would prop me up to see how they would lay and add/subtract until they were just right. Then they would record that number, drain the expanders and put in silicone based on the look, not the a letter (A, B, C, D). I told her I wanted around a small D so that is what we are going for, but based on the look. This way it insures me that we don't put say 450 cc's in and it is too small or large.

She took her time with me and made me feel extremely comfortable. Then came the price. It was around what I expected. $6,600.

Dr. McCormack (appointment February 9th): Last was my appointment with Dr. McCormack. She was very personable. I have a few (ok several) who have been to her for breast augmentation and/or lift. Her office was beautiful and I was taken back to her office to talk boobs.

We went over my history (she commented on how she thought my belly looked amazing for having twins since it is very common to do the breasts and tummy tuck in one) and then she had me change into a robe. After I was changed, she examined me. She did all the measurements that Dr. Talbott did. She said I could go either way. Either just a breast augmentation or I could get a very small lift, but not the sailor lift (think a sailor anchor as your scars). She said it would be a small snip it out if anything.

Then she had me put on a medical sports bra and she put in gel implants (cutlet looking things) to get an idea on sizing. I wanted something in between two sizes. Around 475 cc or 500 cc. Then she took me into the adjacent suite (part of the same area) and took 3d photos of my breasts and body. This was a very cool technology. It measures all my body parts, the difference between the two breasts (in ccs, length and size) and allows us to manipulate them to see what I would want. And at this time, we talked about my umbilical hernia and how I still had one. Everyone mentioned this and how apparent it is. And when I saw the pictures, it was even worse than I thought. I see it looking down and I can tell my belly button still sticks out, but it showed how much it still does and at every angle (from bottom up, it is way out). She did an exam on it too and said I should get it repaired.

Then we manipulated my image to show what I would look like with just implants and what I would look like with the implants and a small lift. Very similar since my nipples are in a good area. It was amazing to see what it all would look like on the computer (it would be a bit different on me than a computer, but you get a better understanding).

Then came time for price. For the breast augmentation it would be $6,600 and for the lift and breast augmentation it would be a few dollars over $10,000.

Conclusion: After thinking about it, I really want to get this done. BUT I think I need to get my umbilical hernia taking care of before my insurance changes on July 1st. My umbilical hernia is ugly, it hurts and it can be fixed by a plastic surgeon who is concerned with scarring. And he (Dr. Murphy) promised to pull it all the way in. To give me an innie again. He will use mesh to make sure it stays put and help fix my current scar. And it will be covered completely by my insurance. He will also be able to tell if it was a double hernia in the first place or if the other one "broke".

And then I will have my breast augmentation with Dr. Talbott in October. That way I can save more in between now and then and finance less. But I WILL be getting it done. I just need to wait and get this taken care of first. So no new boobs for summer, but come October they will be good as new and ready for the next snowboard season.

And if you read through the whole thing, you are awesome. So what do you think, did I make the best decision?

Our Valentine's Plans

*This post contains affiliate links. I only recommend products that I use and love myself.*

I have said it a few times, but we are not big Valentine's Day people. We celebrated it (with gifts) once early on in our relationship with the whole shebang...dinner, drinks and big gifts. And we celebrated it on Valentine's Day, so dinner was insanely expensive coupled with the floor seats to The Black Keys show in Sacramento and a hotel room, I went overboard. Usually we just order in take-out from our favorite Thai place or stay in. I would rather shower my loved ones with love EVERYDAY then to just pick one day a year. I guess I don't buy into the Hallmark holiday as much as I could. But this year we have children and use ANY excuse for a night out, just the two of us, has us jumping on the Valentine's bandwagon.

We are celebrating Valentine's Day on Friday February 12th. I have a hair appointment that afternoon, so it is the perfect excuse to get gussied up. Side note: anyone else waste their freshly done hair because they can't go out after it? We are going to a new restaurant in town (that we heard good things about) and having drinks after. By going Friday instead of Sunday, we will save so much money. Restaurants jack up the prices of dinner on Valentine's Day or make you do the prefix menu. So much money.

My in-laws are coming over to watch the girls and let us have a whole evening out. And with the weekend we just had, we are very welcoming to it.

As for gifts, we were going to opt out once again, but then my husband decided that we should spoil each other since we rarely buy ourselves anything but the necessities. We always opt to spend our money on our lady babies. So I started searching for gifts for Rory, hence my Valentine's Gift Guide for Men, but then he told me he really wanted new boots. And these boots to be specific. Timberland Men's Grantly Boot.
   source

So I purchased him these boots and they will be arriving by Wednesday. And he told me he was getting me my own Garmin Vivoactive that I have been dying to buy forever, but won't pull the trigger on because of the price.

Now I can track my sleep, workouts, walks and so much more. Beyond excited and so grateful. My Garmin should arrive by Friday.

So yes we are spoiling each other this year and going outside our "box" but it is nice to spoil each other every so often. Now to think about fun crafts and things for our lady babies. We can't forget them!!

What are your Valentine's plans? Are you going outside the box and having a date night on another night like we are?

Super Bowl Weekend and a Trip to the ER

To say this weekend was stellar would be a lie. A big lie. This weekend was challenging, exhausting and crazy. Nothing went as planned and I am still feeling the after effects.

Let me back up a bit. Friday after work, we headed out to get the girls their passports and photos done. We went to the one in the city we work at and they changed their policy recently so that you had to have an appointment. This has never been the case. So we headed to the city we live in to one of the many post offices. And there was a line. A long line and apparently people who messed their applications up earlier in the day could cut line once they had fixed the problems. We waited there til closing (3 pm) and moved up one spot. I called the post office in the city we work in and made an appointment. It is for this coming Friday. Leaving only 8 weeks until Mexico. Let's hope nothing goes wrong again. We have tried three times to get their passports now.

At this point, I had a bagel cinnamon twist to eat and that is all. Rory had a haircut and then we were to head to dinner. He got home and the girls were really fussy, so we didn't want to chance going to dinner and decided to grab take out once the girls were down for the night. But as soon as I started changing Avery, she started to projectile vomit all over herself, me and the changing table. I have never seen that much puke. And it wasn't milk vomit, it was bile vomit. Lots of it.

We quickly bathed her because she was covered head to toe in it. She was super lethargic while bathing her and could barely sit up. We took her temperature and it was 97.1. Yes I checked myself and Rory to make sure the thermometer was working correctly. I also called the pediatric after hours line and told them all of her symptoms. Vomiting bright yellow bile, lethargic, low temp and constipated (she had bms but they were deer like, sorry TMI). They told me to get some pedialite and give it to her an hour after she stopped vomiting to let her gut rest. And to give it to her in 5 to 10 ml increments every 10 minutes. And if she vomited again then you start it all over again and that it would be a long night. They said to skip her nighttime feeding as well.

After getting off the phone, I changed to go grab the necessities and get dinner. But I got another phone call from the after care line saying they talked to the girls pediatrician and we needed to go to the ER right away. So we called my in-laws to come watch Sutton and we took Avery in.

After the nurse got her stats (she has lost a pound in two weeks), we were called back almost immediately. We talked to nurses and a doctor about a game plan. At this point Avery had thrown up five times at home about about 3 times in the ER. First up, was an x-ray. Only one parent could be in there so I stayed. My parents also arrived at the ER at this time to make sure she was doing ok. She did so well for the x-ray. They gave her Zofran to ease her nausea and we waited for the results. That came back saying she might have a blockage in her intestines. So we did an ultrasound. Again, only one parent could be there and I went with her. She just watched the tech and I asked a bunch of questions.

After the ultrasound, we waited for about an hour. Avery got a bottle of pedialite with something similar to Miralax. She also got a suppository. The doctor came back in to get us know that the ultrasound showed she had a bunch of gas and a big blockage in her intestines so the suppository and Miralax would help that. Since everything else was fine (she wasn't vomiting anymore, her temp went back up and she was sleeping) they gave us the go ahead to go home. But now we have to call our pediatrician to set up a better diet for the girls since they seem to need more fiber to digest their milk. And now we know what to do should they start getting more backed up. We were released at 1:30 am and home by 2 am. We spent 6 hours in the ER.

We got home to find out Sutton had similar symptoms to Avery and that my mother in law (who is a nurse) was watching over her carefully. We put the girls to bed in our room (in their rock n plays which they are almost to big for, but they have an incline in case they threw up) and we all went back to sleep. We slept until 9 am.

Then we took Walter to his groomers appointment and headed to breakfast. The first meal (for Rory and I) in over 24 hours. We were all hungry. I had a chorizo benedict and it was very good, or maybe I was just THAT hungry. But when I was almost done, I started to feel a little off. We picked up Walter and headed home. And from that point on throughout the day, I had to spend a lot of time in the bathroom. A LOT. But we did manage to go to Costco in between and the grocery store.
Avery was so much happier after her ER visit
Sutton my pancake LOVER

And we had some cuddle time while Sutton and daddy watched the Nevada basketball game.
We did get the girls passport photos at Costco (so cute and funny)

That evening we made dinner, a new recipe I wanted to try. We had a glass of wine and went to bed early. I woke up at 2 am feeling even worse than I did all day Saturday and threw up three times between 2 am and 5 am. And it was a lot. I woke up Sunday feeling awful. And it was Super Bowl Sunday, so I was super bummed to say the least. I managed to choke down a parfait and rest on the couch until it was time to head to my parents house for their annual Super Bowl party.

We decided to go to the party because we didn't want to just watch it at home like last year (the girls had just got out of the NICU and were crabby), wanted to have help watching and hanging out with the girls since my husband and I had food poisoning (he had a few bites of my food, so he got sick as well, just not as sick as me) and we wanted to be our friends and family.
Avery chilling on daddy watching the big game
Sutton hanging out with mom watching the Big Game

We were able to watch the game, but we didn't get to eat any of the good food. Nothing. Everything that I dreamed about, we didn't even get to eat. We tried to take a couple bites of things, but I instantly wanted to throw up. Such a bummer. I basically went three days without eating and the two meals I did get, I threw them up or they came out the other end quickly. I must have lost 5 pounds this weekend. And I still feel awful and haven't tried eating. I am hoping to try some life cereal (sans milk) and see if I can hold it down. Oh ya, I am at work as well since I have little sick leave due to the girls getting RSV a couple weeks ago. So things are rough in my corner. But my girls are better, they had lots of bms this weekend and we are all safe and semi healthy.

And the Broncos won! So happy for that. And I won the 4th quarter squares at work. $55 is in my hand as we speak. I am so happy for Peyton Manning and the Broncos. Such a good game. More than happy with the way the game turned out.

After the game, we headed home, put the girls to bed and watched Pitch Perfect in bed and fell asleep to it. I am hoping for a less stressful day and week and that I can be on the mend from my rough food poisoning.

How was your weekend?
