Happy President's Day!

Happy President's Day all!

I have today off, so we are utilizing the girls new Dash mini waffle maker and doing things around the house. I am still taking it easy, so we don't have much planned today.

But I wanted to pop in and say hi. I have a fun post coming on Wednesday. I was going to post it today, but I wasn't sure how many people were going to be around. So Wednesday it is!

See you Wednesday!

I thought I would share a photo from Friday of the girls. We made these shirts. It has a 1 and then two hearts to represent 100 days of school. Then we put 100 dots on the shirts. And of course they had to be pink as that is their favorite color and they were celebrating Valentine's Day at school. Pink on pink on pink and the cutest little ladies I ever did see.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I can't believe we survived 2020! 2020 was a crazy year. I am still trying to wrap my head around all the changes that happened. I went from traveling regularly to not being on a plane for over 9 months. I went from going into the office daily to only have been in my office 3 times since the pandemic started. I went from seeing my co-workers daily to only talking to them on the phone. I went from seeing my friends at least once every two weeks to going months without seeing them.

We lost my grandmother during the pandemic. The girls started Kindergarten with things so different than I ever imagined for them. We cancelled our trip to Mexico twice. Rory left his job and started a new one. I cooked more meals at home than I ever have in my entire life. And I did more dishes this last year than I have ever in my life.

Let's hope 2021 brings joy, happiness, some sense of normalcy, new beginnings and new blessings! Happy New Year's to all my friends!

Thanksgiving 2018

Well we survived our Thanksgiving trip and had a lot of fun. We drove a ton. We ate way too much. We lost a football game. BUT we had the best time with family.

Let me back up. On Wednesday morning we got up at our normal time and got ready to hit the road. We stopped at a local coffee shop for some coffee cake and lattes. Then we ventured out. We drove to Las Vegas which is about a 7 hour drive without stops and when you have kids, you stop.

The girls made it about an hour before asking if we were there yet. Even with their Kindles loaded up with videos, they still didn't want to be in the car. I adjusted their headphones a hundred time and changed their movies about the same amount. We caravanned down there with my in-laws.

We stopped in Tonopah for some lunch for about an hour and then again in Beatty for the amazing candy store.  But we made it to Las Vegas and were greeted with dinner, wine, and lots of laughter.

Thursday morning we got up, had some coffee and then a big breakfast. After everyone was ready, we walked to a park to let the girls burn off some energy.

We headed back around 12:30 to make some lunch and put the girls down for their naps. Most of the family headed over to another family members house, but Rory, the girls, myself and another cousin stayed behind. Once the girls got up, we headed over for dinner and football. Plus a little photoshoot with the girls.

Sutton and her favorite cousin Chandler

We had homemade raviolis, turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, homemade rolls, stuffing, cheeses, ham and a bunch of other goodies. Then we finished dinner off with pie and homemade whipped cream.

One of the little cousins brought a school project home where you take a candy and say what you are thankful for and then eat it and pass the bag on. Everyone did this and it was quite emotional. Between two family members passing away within 3 months of each other, we had a lot to be grateful and thankful for. It was a tradition we are going to keep going.

We took the girls back to Rory's cousins house to put them down and watch the Wolf Pack basketball team finish their game.

Friday morning we got up and had another big breakfast and then got ready to head to Honey and Salt for auntie Gail's book reading and book release. Gail had finished her book and was in the middle of publishing it when she passed away. The book is done and published, so we had a celebration for her. One of the cousins read her eulogy, others said some words about Gail and we talked about the book. Then we ate.
The girls were cuddled and played with the entire trip!

After the event, Rory and I headed out for some Black Friday shopping while my in-laws took the girls back to the house for a nap. We didn't have much success shopping, but it was good to get out for a bit.

After naps, we were watching some football and decided to head back to the cousins house for leftovers and football. With the turkey leftovers, they made an amazing turkey soup and then we feasted on a bunch of other leftover goodies. The girls even made a gingerbread turkey with my MIL and cousin.

Saturday morning we went to our favorite donut shop and had those while drinking coffee and watching the news. We lazied around the house most of the morning before walking over to Starbucks and to the atm. While the girls napped, we got ready to go to the football game. Nevada was playing UNLV for their final game of the year (minus the bowl game) and a huge cannon is always up for grabs. It is a trophy that is painted and passed around depending on who wins. Well Nevada went in there as the favorite, but lost in the 4th quarter. It was very sad and awful. Ha.

But we first stopped at one of the cousins house for a pre-party where we ate pulled chicken and pulled pork with salads and other goodies and took a ton of pictures.
Cousins

Then we took a party bus to the game where we danced, sang and had a few drinks. It was a lot of chaos, but a lot of fun!!!

After the game, we headed back home and went to bed.

Sunday morning we got up, got ready, packed our things and then headed out to breakfast. We had a long drive ahead of us. We only made one stop in Beatty for gas and then in Luning to let the girls use the bathroom. We made it home in just over 7 hours. The girls watched way too much Sing along the way and only melted down a couple of times. They just wanted to be at home with Walter.

Overall, it was a great trip and one to remember for the books.

How was your Thanksgiving?

Father's Day Weekending

This weekend was different, unusual, weird. Between cranky toddlers, rainy weather, a sick child on Father's Day and Father's Day, nothing went quite as planned.

Let me back up to Friday. Rory had a golf tournament, so that meant that I was to pick up the girls after work. But first, I grabbed lunch, went to Old Navy and then a local clothing shop before heading to the hospital for a genetic DNA test.

After getting done, I went to Trader Joes to get snacks for the beach the next day plus a few of our favorites for the house. Oh and if you love a summer time cocktail, they have these seltzer flavored water alcohol drinks that are amazing right now. I got the pomegranate one. Yum.

After dropping off the groceries at home, I picked up the girls and took them to the park. We were only there for about 40 minutes before the wind got to be too much for them. Then I took them to dinner at our favorite Mexican place. They were mostly behaved.

Then we went home, got ready for bed and watched an episode of Mickey. Then I did the normal bedtime routine with them. Rory got home about 15 minutes after they went down, so he was able to kiss them goodnight.

Saturday morning we got up early since the girls had no interest in the dog wake up clock we got them. They didn't even pay attention to it. Even though they did Friday morning. Ugh. After we got up, we got ready and left to go to the beach. We grabbed coffees along the way and were so excited for our first beach day.

It wasn't too crowded when we got there, but it started filling up fast. We had an ok time. The girls were feisty, didn't want to listen, only wanted to eat non-stop and didn't want to go in the water since it was so cold. I don't blame them on the last one though because it was too cold and windy to go in. But we managed to stay there for 3 1/2 hours before leaving since Sutton refused to go to the bathroom there. Even though they were real bathrooms, flushable toilets and so clean.

The girls napped on the way home, but they didn't get a long enough nap because they were even more cranky and grumpy when we got home.

Once we were home, we gave the girls a bath and then let them have some quiet time in their rooms. That didn't last that long. Let's just say the rest of the day was hard. They were grumpy, didn't want to listen and threw a lot of tantrums.

I made salmon with the strawberry avocado salsa along with some rice. The girls had chicken and the rice. We put them to bed a bit early and tried to relax the rest of the evening.

Sunday morning the girls actually stayed in their room until their clock turned green. It was a success. We got up, got ready and met my in-laws at breakfast. Everything was great and we had a good time. We got home and hung out and the girls were doing pretty well. They were tired of being cooped up though, but it was raining and was supposed to rain all day.

My in-laws came over to put a new fan up in our living room and to play with the girls. I was going to go to Target while all of this was happening, but Avery told me her tummy hurt, so we snuggled on the couch and watched them put the fan up. My MIL played with Sutton while all of this was happening.

We made the girls lunch, but Avery didn't want to eat and Sutton only ate a bit. Then we put them down and I helped finish putting the fan up. As soon as we got done, we heard a weird noise and then Avery screaming. She threw up in her bed. So I took her into the bath and bathed her while Rory quietly cleaned her bed out.

Once she was out of the bath, she was happy and fine. I got her dressed and we snuggled on the couch. Not long later, Sutton woke up and then Avery was full on grumpy. I cleaned up from putting the fan up (vacuumed and swept) and then we got ready to head to my in-laws house for dinner since Avery seemed to be doing better other than being grumpy.

She complained the whole car ride over that she wanted to go home, but we thought she was still just being grumpy. Nope. As soon as we walked into my in-laws house, she threw up again. But then she exclaimed that she felt awesome again. Ha.

We cleaned the throw up up, along with Avery and her clothes. We were cautious in that we might need to leave, but she was in a better mood and so much more like herself. So we played it by ear. She actually wanted to eat, but we said first to try crackers after a bit. After about 20 minutes we gave her some crackers and she ate those. That is basically all she ate that evening.

We had bacon burgers with all the fixings along with two kinds of fries and salad.
grilling burgers

After dinner we had some dessert and then headed out since the girls didn't get much of a nap and Avery was still under the weather. On the way home she was doing great, but getting tired. She fell asleep very quickly when we got home, but Sutton wasn't that tired. Rory hung out in their room to make sure Avery was ok and to keep Sutton company. When he thought they were both asleep, he took Walter for a walk. I got things ready for the week, but then Avery started screaming. I thought she had thrown up, but she hadn't. She said she had to go to the bathroom and wanted her daddy NOW.

I took her to the bathroom, but she was still screaming for her daddy. I tucked her back in bed and hung out in her room until Rory got home from his walk with Walter. He stayed in their room for another 10 minutes until she fell asleep. We managed to watch about 30 minutes of a show before she woke up again. She complained that her feet hurt, that she didn't want to go to sleep (she was scared) and wanted her daddy. So we put the travel bed up in the girls room and Rory slept in their room most of the night. What an awesome dad!

How was your weekend?

Oh I did want to mention that almost the same thing happened two years ago on Mother's Day. We had dinner over at my sister's house and Avery wasn't feeling well that whole day either. And when we got home, she threw up that evening. Not sure what it was that time either, but poor baby girl has been sick on both Father's Day and Mother's Day.

Memorial Day Weekending

You know when you have a really good weekend? Well, I just had a great weekend. Minus my cold that is not getting any better. Boo. But I totally made the best of it and definitely have a smile on my face today. How was your weekend?

Friday after work, we grabbed some lunch and then went to Target to pick up a few things we needed at the house. But we were mostly there to kill some time. That is definitely dangerous, but we managed to escape with a few essentials. Then I dropped Rory off to get his haircut and I went to Total Wine to get wine and beer for the weekend of camping.

After I picked Rory back up, we went to our coworkers house to try his home brew (beer). It was really good and we spent an hour and a half just chatting and sampling his beers. Then we went to a local boutique to look at a purse I had been eyeing. But when we arrived, they didn't have it anymore. They only had it in their Tahoe store. We went into another boutique a few stores away since they had the same purse. Unfortunately, I didn't like it as much in person, but walked out with a blush color purse that I am happy with.

Then we went home, unpacked our things and then went out to sushi. My in-laws hadn't seen the girls in awhile since they were out of town, so they picked them up from daycare and had dinner with them. We stuffed our faces with sushi and then Rory dropped me off at a bar/restaurant downtown to meet up with my twin mom friends.

We had drinks at Centro and then went to a bar a couple blocks down and had drinks there. We sat there talking for hours. It was sooo nice to hang out with friends who just get me because they are in the thick of it all too. We walked back a few blocks to another bar and had drinks and danced there. I ended up staying out until 12:30 and taking an Uber home. It was the best night and I can't wait to do that again.

While I was out, I got a text from Rory saying he had a story to tell me about Walter. I didn't think much of it, but it was a big, bad story. Ha. When I got home, there was a candle still burning, but I didn't think much of it. I went to bed.

Saturday morning I woke up and asked about the Walter story and why Walter was still at our house. My in-laws were supposed to take him home with them since we were camping. This is where it gets awful.

We bought two bottles of wine home from Total Wine and put them on the counter laying down before we headed out to sushi. It was in the middle of the breakfast bar. Apparently, when we were gone, about 10 minutes before my in-laws arrived with the girls. Walter pulled the plastic bag off the counter and one of the wine bottle shattered. The other was fine. Red wine went everywhere like someone had been murdered in our kitchen. Wine on the cabinets and on the floor. Then he dragged the bag that had wine and glass in it through the dining room to the living room and onto our couch. All the while, he never cut himself (thank goodness). But it was a huge mess.

Rory didn't tell me about it because he wanted me to enjoy my night out and not come home to that or leave early. So he and his dad cleaned while his mom watched the girls. I guess it took an hour to clean up. They had to wipe down the cabinets twice, pick up all the glass, mop twice, vaccum, spot clean the carpets and wash his blanket that was on the couch.

So I got up and assessed the damage. Our grout is stained in many areas. So I googled how to get it out. I mixed bleach and baking soda and scrubbed it into the grout with a toothbrush. Then I let it sit for 15 minutes, washed it with warm water and then mopped again. I have to throw out the mop head since I am sure it has little fragments of glass in it. Then I had to vacuum the carpets and kitchen twice. The stains are still in the grout, but the carpet and couch are fine. We are going to a local floor place for a kit that cleans wine out of grout. Ugh.

Walter had to be outside for an hour and a half while it was being cleaned. He was a super naughty pup. I am soooo thankful he didn't cut himself and die from it. It was that bad!

So after clean up, we got ready, packed and then headed out camping. We had a two hour drive ahead of us and then we got to relax. It rained off and on the first day, but nothing too bad. We celebrated my cousin's sons birthday that afternoon. He turned 6. That evening, I was exhausted and my cold was ramping up, so I just sat around the campfire talking and hanging out.

We grilled ribs, had some roasted potatoes and a salad for dinner. It was a very relaxing evening. We put the girls to bed late and they slept pretty well.

Sunday morning we got up and I was feeling a lot better. We made breakfast, pancakes and bacon and then hung around camp. The boys played cornhole and a frisbee game where you knock an empty bottle off a stake. It was a lot warmer, so we all enjoyed the sunshine.

Rory and I took a walk around camp and to see how high the river was.

We all smoked some tri-tips for dinner, so we put that on around 1 pm and just let it sit for 5 hours. At 6 pm, we got everything ready and had a huge potluck with all of our friends from nearby camps.

My cousin brought over the largest bottle of wine for everyone to share.

After dinner, we cleaned up and then started the campfire. We wanted the girls to roast marshmallows and have s'mores for the first time.

The girls loved their s'mores, but not much later, it was time for bed. We put them down at 8:30, but Sutton wouldn't go to sleep. Plus she wouldn't let me go hang out with all the women from our camp. So we had to sit in the trailer with them until they fell asleep which was about 9:30. Then I headed over to the main lodge and had some drinks with the ladies. The lodge closes at 10 pm, so then we headed back to camp and then went over to my cousin's camp. My cousin was pretty drunk, so she was really funny to watch.

We called it a night at 11 pm since we were exhausted. The girls slept in until 7 am which was amazing. But I woke up with laryngitis, so I couldn't talk much. I tried, but the girls kept asking why my voice was broken. Ha.

We made breakfast burritos and then packed up our camp. We headed out around 11 am and the girls slept in the car almost the whole way home. Once we got home, we unpacked, showered and cleaned up a bit before my FIL brought Walter home. The girls were pretty unruly that evening and threw quite a few tantrums.

I went grocery shopping, but we had pizza for dinner since I wasn't up for cooking and could barely talk. We put the girls to bed a bit early and then just watched the Bachelorette and went to bed.

Mother's Day Gift Guide

*This post contains affiliate links.

Mother's Day is this Sunday. In case you haven't shopped for your Mom, I have some suggestions for you.

ONE. Biana posted this beautiful silk pillowcase on her Mother's Day guide and I had to steal it (Thanks Biana!). It is supposed to help you sleep longer, anti-aging, lessen your hair breakage and keep your face moisturized. The perfect pillowcase for mommies. The price tag is a little steep, but if you can get this as a Mother's Day gift, total win-win.

TWO. Bum Bum Cream. I recently talked about this in a Friday Favorites post, but I have been using it for two weeks now and I love it. It smells amazing, keeps my skin hydrated all day long and I am hoping it is smoothing my booty lines (cough: cellulite) out. Definitely worth the $45 price tag....so far.

THREE. I am all about the tassel earrings right now. They are fun, different and bold. When Kendra Scott launched her new summer line and I saw some tassel earrings, I have secretly been wanting them and dropping hints to Rory. How cute are these?

FOUR. A Massage Gift Card.

FIVE. A circular beach towel. You all know my love for Lake Tahoe. Especially Sand Harbor. I have seen the cutest circular beach blankets/towels (especially on Strange Bikinis IG) and I really want one for this summer. I found some at The Tides Project and I have my eye on this one.

SIX. A bright pink nail polish.
Butter Flusher Blusher

SEVEN. A new pair of soft pjs for the summer. I never splurge and buy myself pjs. I don't know why, but I just never do. But when I saw these Plum Pretty PJs, I wanted them. How beautiful is the print?

EIGHT. I have been wanting another pair of Allbirds for quite awhile and they introduced the Lounger version (slip-on) and that is the one I have had my eye on. They are unbelievably comfy, you can wear them without socks and are breathable.

NINE. I love candy. Especially gummy candy. It is no secret that I love SugarFina candy. I love the champagne bears and always welcome them in a gift.

TEN. I have a wedding and some other events which requires dressing up. While looking at cute clutches, I came across a new one by Leith. This would be perfect for all of those events. Plus I could use it for date nights.
