Friday Favorites and Happenings

So I had surgery yesterday (this was pre-written) and I didn't write a Friday Favorites post beforehand. Such is the life. I spent the week getting ready for surgery. I pre-made some meals, did the usual work week things like homework and laundry, had a facial (no chemical peel) and worked.

But I wanted to stop in and let you know that I appreciate all your thoughts and prayers. I am (planning) on posting some updates on Instagram, so if you don't follow me, you can start here. Until then, I may be on here in a few days when I am feeling a bit more like myself.

Have a great weekend. I am linking up with A Little Bit of Everything.

Friday Favorites and Happenings

Happy Friday! We have a pretty low key weekend planned. My husband had Lasik yesterday, so we are taking it easy this weekend. We might watch the Super Bowl, but now that my Niners are out, I am not into it as much. I would be happy with a 0 - 0 tie, if that can even happen.

Onto Friday Favorites and Happenings.

ONE. So my surgery was rescheduled....but only til Thursday February 16th, so only a two days difference. It works out for me in that I don't have to be there at 6 am anymore. Now I am going in at 9 am. The one thing that didn't work out with the change in schedule was, I had a hair appointment on Friday that I was going to use as my hair washing time. But with surgery being the day before, I will be in a post-op appointment and I definitely won't be up for a four hour appointment the day after.

But if you could say a prayer for me on Thursday, that would be amazing and so appreciated.

TWO. Last weekend I went out for my friends 41st birthday. We all met up for dinner (they did a spa day before) and then went to a free salsa dance lesson. One of my friends and I just stopped in the salsa lesson as I had to get home and be rested for a bridal shoot that I did the next day. But we did have the best time at dinner. There were laughs, margaritas, Mexican food and cupcakes.

THREE. When I got my makeup done for the bridal photoshoot that I was a part of (a mini post is coming Monday), she used a bunch of new-to-me makeup. I asked her so many questions. She used the One Size Secure the Blur Primer and it lasted all day long. My makeup looked flawless, blended and airbrushed (even though it wasn't).

I know I just bought the Milk primer, but I liked this even more. So I went to my local Sephora the next day and bought some. I have been using it for a week now and I LOVE it. I was skeptical as I saw it on Tik Tok, but it really does blur my pores. I have oily skin and throughout the day it gets bad at times. So far it has held up and doesn't look oily. Now I am not sure how it will hold up in the Summer heat, but time will tell.

Have you tried this primer?

FOUR. Tarte is having a big sale. Almost everything is on sale and all products start at $10. I grabbed my favorite eyeshadow palette for $25, my favorite mascara for $15, my favorite eyeliner for $10, and a new to me product, the Fake Awake Eye Highlight for $10.

The eye highlight is like an eyeliner, but you put it in the corners of your eyes to brighten them up. This is what it does....so pretty.

Fake Awake Eye Highlight

I can't wait to try it out and see what the hype is all about.

Friday Favorites and Happenings

Happy Friday! So Phil says we have another six weeks of Winter, but Staten Island Chuck said Spring, so I am going to hope that Chuck is right this year. I am so over the Winter. It is freezing out. We have had extreme lows, like much of the US and so much snow. It was 4 degree when I drove to work on Tuesday and we have more snow coming Sunday. Over.It.

Onto Friday Favorites and Happenings.

ONE. I had a gift card to Rothy's that has been sitting in my inbox since early December. I also had a $20 off coupon to use, so I combined them and bought some new pointers. I love the pointed flats. I have them in pink, black and now a taupe color. These are the best shoes to travel with and wear daily. After a work trip, I pop them in the washing machine (take the soles out and wash both) and they are as good as new and don't have all the street gunk from wherever I was.

I also have a pair of the classic flats that I love just as much. I just tend to wear the point ones more since I feel more put together with them on. I normally wear a 8 1/2, but I sized up to a 9 in the Point.

Here is the ones I got.

Rothy's The Point
The Point  Use code: FM4NHG9 for $20 off.

TWO. I went to Old Navy last week to find something to wear to a funeral (I didn't find anything) and I came across this sweater. It was super cute in person, and on sale, so I grabbed it. It is sold out online, but if you go into a store, you just might find it. It is on sale for $19.99 (originally $49.99) and then an extra 35% off, making it $12.99.

Heart Sweater

THREE. I feel like all I have done this week is shop. Ha. But everything I got was either on sale, or I had a gift card for. But I got another pair of the Spanx leggings. I got the navy blue ones last time and I got the caramel (tan) ones this time.

I wore the navy suede leggings this last weekend to the funeral I attended and they were so comfortable. They hike up your booty and suck in your mom pooch. They felt amazing on. I had bought a size medium tall and I think a small would have been fine too.

And since I loved wearing those so much, I promptly wore my faux leather leggings on Sunday with my Niners shirt and bought the tan color. They are still on sale, but I did get the navy ones for even less since they had an extra 30% off at the time. This time, I only got an extra 15% off.  Still so worth it.

They are perfect for work, date night or being casual. Now I am waiting for the flare perfect pant to go on sale.

FOUR. And now for a nose update. I saw my plastic surgeon on Wednesday and it was definitely a more helpful appointment. My doctor isn't concerned about the septal button. He said that my ENT could put it back in later or I could leave it out. It isn't affecting the structure of my nose, but he did say it was bigger than the last time he saw me.

As for my breathing problem, he says it is my nostrils collapsing. He did some breathing tests by making me breathe in deep, then putting the nose tool in and doing the same thing, then pulling the tip of my nose up and breathing in deep and so on. Every single time, my nostrils collapsed. Basically that means, that my nostrils pinch in towards my septum (the middle part of your nose). My right side is all the way and my left side is almost all the way.

He said to fix that I would need alar grafts. He would do this by taking cartilage from my ear (the left one this time) and putting it around my nostrils (inside) and on the tip of my nose. The tip of the nose one is a layered piece that will sit horizontally and keep the structure of my nose and nostrils in place.

So basically this is what I should expect:

Friday Favorites and Happenings

Happy Friday! I can't believe we are at the end of January already. To be honest, I am ok with that. January is never my favorite month. It is always a let down after the holidays and always so dreary. It has been freezing cold (in the teens to 30s each day) and/or snowing every day. Ugh. Bring on the sunshine.

Onto Friday Favorites and Happenings.

ONE. I had my second opinion nose doctor appointment on Wednesday and I wanted to share with you all what happened and how it went. Long story short...it didn't go as planned, but I did get some advice.

I told the new doctor my nose history including my surgeries and then what happened with the septal button and the symptoms since then. He told me that the hole in my nose still has scabbing all around it and I need to use the saline rinse bottle kit and clean my nose and sinuses out even if the water just comes out of the hole. He said to keep using the antibiotic ointment inside my nose. He said he could replace the button with a new one, but under general anesthesia. He said he couldn't fix the nostril collapse and that I needed to go back to my plastic surgeon for that. He said the right side is really bad and the left side is moderately bad. He said he would need to do a CT Scan in two weeks (because my insurance, but I tried to tell him he could do it that day as my insurance is fine with it, as I have done it before same day) to see if my sinuses are still full and infected or if all my symptoms (not sleeping well, waking up 3 to 5 times a night, waking up exhausted, whistling through the nose, the scabbing, the inflammation) are due to the button coming out (what he thinks is going on).

So as I was checking out, I called my plastic surgeon and begged to get in ASAP. I am running on low battery here and want to breathe better and sleep better. Those are the most important. The sinus stuff can wait as I can manage sinus infections as they come.

Fortunately my doctor can see me on February 1st, so a week after my appointment I just had. I hope he can replace the septal button and fix the nostrils and leave the sinuses alone. It is so risky having multiple surgeries on your nose, so I want to be careful. Plus I don't have much cartilage left. He took it from my nose on surgery number one and my right ear on number two. I don't think my left ear is a candidate as that is my ear I use for phone calls and sleep on. I think it might be the rib time. Ugh.

Anyways, I thought I would give you all an update. Basically no real news.

TWO. My girls have been wanting cell phones and I feel like they are just too young. With social media and all the distractions, I am not ok with them having them at 8 years old. BUT I do want the capability of knowing where they are at all times, them having the ability to contact me in case of an emergency and a "learning" tool prior to the cell phone (like the pager I had).

I was talking to my cousin and she got her kids smart watches. They have very strict limitations and controls on them, but they have GPS, text and calling. There is no apps or social media on them. I thought this was a good idea and started looking into them.

I have been researching for awhile and I was going back and forth between the Gabb Watch and the TickTalk 4 Watch. I think we have settled on the Gabb watch as it is slimmer, lighter and allows what we need minus the video calling. But really, I don't need my kids video calling me or their grandparents during school or all the time. They both have setting for when they are in school that they can only call or text the emergency contacts (my husband and I). They both have unlimited plans as well. The Gabb watch is about $50 cheaper, but the plans are close to the same per month.

When I get one, are you interested in a review? Do your kids have phones? Do they have smart phones?

Gabb Watch

THREE. This is basically another PSA and it comes mostly from Lindsay, but you all need to schedule your mammograms. Some of you are not old enough for it, but if you have a family history, are old enough according to your insurance or had lumps in the past, schedule it.

I was supposed to have mine in May 2020, and due to the pandemic, mine was pushed back. I get mine done near the hospital and it is part of the hospital, so they pushed it. And now it is almost two years later, so I finally got the push from Lindsay to schedule mine.

Don't be like me and schedule yours.

Friday Favorites and Happenings

Happy Friday! We don't have anything big going on this weekend other than watching the Niners and Cowboys game. I am very much welcoming an easy weekend and hopefully getting some rest.

Onto Friday Favorites and Happenings.

ONE. Last weekend we celebrated the girls birthday with a roller skating birthday party. It was chaos, but the girls had the best time. I snapped a few photos and we had some great videos on IG, but I don't have copies of those. And some of these are from others.

TWO. On Sunday night, we took the girls to a fancy dinner using money we all got for Christmas. We went to a steakhouse and the girls ate soooo much. The girls and I shared a steak dinner and the staff were so amazing to the girls. They each got their own sorbet palette cleanser and they even upped our portion for our appetizer. Plus they each got a chocolate mousse cake.

THREE. I recently bought myself a Valentine's Day/heart sweater. I had seen it on IG and it wasn't available online until a few days ago. I bought mine in person. I tried on the small, medium and large. I went with the medium and it fits beautifully. The small was just a bit too short on me (I have a long torso). The large is great if you want an oversized fit. But $25 for this sweater is a steal.

Women's Heart Sweater

FOUR. I was at Sephora using gift cards from Christmas and I asked the sales rep about a new primer. I have been using the NYX Marshmellow Primer, but I have noticed that my mascara ends up tinting under my eyes and my face has been greasier in the evening more than usual.

I told her that I tend to have oilier skin and I want all day lasting power. She suggested Milk Hydro Grip Primer. She put some on my hand and it instantly hydrated it. I should tell you that my hands are wrecked in the Winter and so dry. This helped. I walked around grabbing my Eyeshadow Primer and a new foundation brush to see how many hand did with it. I liked it and they have the best return/exchange policy, so I thought why not. I have used it 3 times since then and I really like it. My makeup has lasted all day and not run. I will continue to use it and give a more proper review later.

Friday Favorites and Happenings

Happy Friday! And happy Friday the 13th. I can't believe we are already half way through January. We have a lot going this weekend. We have Rory's holiday party (yes, in January as everyone was too busy in December), the girls birthday party and the first 49ers playoff game of the season. Go Niners!

Onto Friday Favorites and Happenings.

ONE. I am trying to get ahead in holiday prep. I was browsing Amazon and I found the perfect Valentine's Day cards/gifts for your kids class. This comes in a box of 60, but with twins, multiple children or events (dance, baseball, basketball, etc.), you can use the whole box.

My girls love these little mochi animals, so this was something fun other than candy because we all know the kids get so much candy on Valentine's Day. It comes with heart boxes and a card plus a mochi for each one. Such a good deal and they are on sale.

TWO. So remember last week how I said that I was looking for another Stanley water bottle for home? Well I went to Scheel and got one for me, one for a friend and one for her co-worker. They had a bunch at Scheels and I couldn't resist getting one for home.

My water stays cold all day and I actually drink more water. Plus I don't get that awful plastic taste that I get in some water bottles. I have a co-worker who is even more obsessed with them than I am and she bought two more recently. Then another co-worker has an Amazon dupe and she said it isn't as good. Anyways, if you have a Scheels or Dick's Sporting Goods around you, grab one or through my link.

THREE. Spanx is having a 30% off sale on some of their favorites. I have the Spanx faux leather leggings which I love (and will be wearing tonight) and I have been eyeing the Spanx Perfect Pant Flares (for work and date night), but they are not on sale. My co-worker swears their work pants are the best and hold up so well. So I decided to grab their Faux Suede Leggings for work and date nights and I can't wait to get them in. I chose the navy ones, but went back and forth between navy and caramel. They are originally $98, but on sale for $68.60 and then I used the extra 10% off after signing up for emails to make them $61.74. Yes, that is still pricey, but she swears by them.

I got a size small regular in the faux leather leggings, but I sized up to a medium tall (I am 5'9") in these based on the reviews.

Spanx Faux Suede Leggings

FOUR. Can I just say how obsessed I am with this Idaho Murders case? It has consumed me. Basically any big case that comes out consumes me lately. I love following along and breaking it all down. I follow AshleyMerry for the latest updates on the case and then research on my own.

This week, I talked to two co-workers who are former FBI agents about the things that I don't understand about the case so far. And yes, I know that the affidavit will only show the bare bones of the case. But the roommate waiting 7 to 8 hours to call 911, I didn't understand. Or how it was done in 15 minutes, etc. Anyways, if you want to chat about it, please comment or email me. I would love to talk more about it!
