We left off on day 10 which was a Wednesday. We had meetings all day. But we did squeeze in a lunch of pierogis. I wanted to try authentic pierogis since I have only had them in the States. They did no disappoint.
After work, we went back down to the Old Town Market area to grab some souvenirs as two of my co-workers were leaving the next day. Then we went to dinner at Bar a Boo which is a pizza place that was next to Stixx.
The building looked like a heart from the outside.
We ate and hung out and then headed back to the hotel.
Thursday was another day of work and full of meetings. After the meetings, we headed walked around to see the Ghetto Wall. It took us a bit to find this one area. Since they were doing some construction in the area, we had to go through some archways between buildings.
This map shows the old Ghetto Wall and what is left of it.
After the wall, we went to the Warsaw Uprising Museum. I knew a lot about WWII, but I learned so much more about it and Poland's roll.
I didn't take many photos in there as it was quite crowded and we were just taking it in. After the museum, we walked to A Blikle which is a Polish donut place that we were told we must try. They are basically a jelly filled donut, but soooo much better than I anticipated. We got two of them. One was plum filled and the other was rose water jelly. They both had candied orange peels on top.
After our donuts, we hit the gym and then got ready to head back to Stixx for our final dinner in Poland. This time I got the deconstructed Pad Thai which was amazing! Us girls also shared a bottle of wine and way too much bread. It was the perfect final (4 hour) dinner of the trip.
Friday morning we had a early start as we flew to Frankfurt first. These were some of the morning views from the plane.
We had a 2 hour layover which went quickly as we had to get through customs, get our VAT taxes back and get onto our long flight. We flew into San Francisco for a three hour layover and then onto Reno.
This was my view on my way from SF to Reno.
I was greeted at the airport by Rory and the girls. Such a great way to end the trip and the over 24 hours of travel.
The next day I gave the girls and Rory their gifts and then I opened my purse which I promptly filled and have been using every day since.
Now I want to say that I am in no way saying you should buy this purse. I just had a couple people ask me for the details and pricing, so I thought I would share. I did not pay that price as I was in Europe where the dollar was stronger and the purse was cheaper.
This torte was very traditional to Austria and something I brought home to share with the girls.
They package it so well, but the plastic was really difficult to get off the torte.
And that concludes my trip to Austria and Poland. Have you ever been? Any questions on my trip?
Dave went to the ghetto wall too, and I think the museum, but he didn't take photos there!
ReplyDeleteIt didn't feel right taking a lot of photos there. It was very special to see though.
DeleteI think it's amazing that not only did you get to go there for work, but also got to take the sites in!
ReplyDeleteThat was the best part. We don't get that much time, but with the time we have, we make the most of it.
DeleteThat museum sounds wonderful; I've been covering WWII with my son these past couple of days and I was telling him that I am always learning more and more about it since it was such a huge war that encompassed so many countries and people and battles and heroes. It certainly sounds like you had a delicious trip too.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome. I am still learning about it even though we covered it in history. But I am sure I will learn even more when my girls study it. The food was pretty good too!!!
DeleteThat Polish donut looks amazing! I'm not even really a fan of jelly filled donuts but that one looks and sounds divine.
ReplyDeleteI hate jelly donuts but this one was so good and special. It wasn't greasy and the filling was just enough.
