Onto Friday favorites and happenings.
ONE. I was gone all last week, but I still heard the news of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain's suicides. To say that I was sad was an understatement. I remember buying my first Kate Spade bag. I remember my first Kate Spade earrings. I LOVED her stuff. I STILL do.
I recently got a new handbag with hopes that I would go into one of her stores in the near future and get another bag of hers because let's be real here, many of my handbags in my closet are Kate Spade bags and I wanted a new one. Now I want one even more. Kind of like a farewell to her. Though I am sure I will continue to buy from Kate Spade for a long time.
As for Anthony Bourdain...I had a love/hate relationship with him. I was always fascinated by his tv shows. I loved all the travels he did, the weird things he would eat, and the new foods he would try. I loved how he took on the topic of food. That was my love for him. My hate part came when I met him in Las Vegas. I was there for work and one of my co-workers and I went to Lotus of Siam. I had been there many times before and it is really good.
We went there for lunch and not long after we were seated, Anthony Bourdain was seated right behind me, but I didn't know that at first. As we got our food, I kept getting a chair bumped into me. Over and over again. Like the person behind me was getting up over and over. Which he was since everyone wanted to meet him. Once I noticed who it was, I just scooted in further to give him more room. But it kept happening. No matter how much I tried to accommodate him, he kept hitting my chair. He never once apologized for it or cared. When I tried to introduce myself, he said hello and brushed me off. I basically wanted to say, you are the asshole who has been bumping into my chair over and over again for the last hour and you can't even be nice and say interact with me for a minute? It is the least you can do.
But I just left and moved on. I still watched his show and was still very sad when I heard he committed suicide.
Suicide sucks. Plain and simple. I have had people in my life commit suicide and it is devastating. It breaks people and is completely selfish. I am sooooo sad that they chose that way to leave this world. Depression sucks. Please reach out to anyone if you are having these types of thoughts.
TWO. Don't forget to enter the $150 cash giveaway I posted on Monday. You can go here for the giveaway.
THREE. When we were on vacation last week, my SIL told us that she uses the Ready To Wake Clock for my nephew and it has helped. I have heard about this clock from many parents, but never bought one for the girls. Well after months of them waking up at 6ish am on the weekends and having to drag them out of bed on the weekdays at 6:15 am, we decided that we needed to get them a toddler waking clock.
I turned to Amazon as I always do and found a couple that I had seen before. After reading reviews, I went with the doggie one. It arrived last night and I am hoping we can get the girls to sleep in until at least 7 or 7:30 am on weekends. Here's to hoping. Have you used one for your kids?
This one has an alarm for weekends and weekdays and it also has a nap alarm. It is pretty easy to use. When it is a red ball, that means stay asleep or quiet time in your room and when the ball turns green, you can wake up.
FOUR. Since I was already buying something on Amazon, I figured I would scoop up two pool loungers for Rory and I at the beach. I hope the girls will want to use them with us, but that is to be determined. You can buy these for $5.19 each if you add them onto an order of $25 or more which was perfect for the $24 clock above (with tax).
FIVE. So I went back to my doctor earlier this week and I was telling her that I am still tired all the time. Even after having all sort of blood tests, trying B-12 shots (which temporarily work), and taking supplements, I am still tired. Ugh. I just wanted answers. Then she started going through my blood work and said, I have an idea. You have never been tested for Vitamin D deficiency. I said, what....I thought I had. But I guess I hadn't.
She told me that in order to get enough vitamin d, we should be outside 4 times a week for at least 15 minutes and having a lot of skin exposed. And she said when you wear sunscreen, you don't get as much vitamin d. Wow. I had no idea. I take walks outside often on my breaks, I play with the girls outside and feel like I get outside enough, but I am always covered up (unless I am at the beach), wear sunscreen and make sure I don't burn.
So she sent me right over for a vitamin d blood test. Luckily, there is a lab right in her office. I should have the results back today. Fingers crossed. If it is a vitamin d deficiency, they will put me on a supplement and the dosage will depend on my results. If it is under 20, then most likely I will be on 50,000 units per week. If it is higher than 20 and lower than 30, I will get a smaller dose. But she suspects it's way lower. And if it is over 30, then we are still trying to figure this out.

Have a great weekend!
We tried the OK to Wake clock with Olivia and it was a major fail. She just ignored it and got up anyway. Girlfriend just does what she wants. Lol.
ReplyDeleteMy girls did that once this weekend too. Not sure how they are going to handle it. Ha.
DeleteI hope the clock works!! Ugh and I hope you get answers from your Vit D test!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard back yet. Ugh. And as for the clock, it has been hit and miss so far. I hope it starts to stick soon!
DeleteThat alarm clock is adorable!
ReplyDeleteNow let's just hope that it works!
DeleteI need to tell my sister about that alarm clock, her oldest needs it. I have my fingers crossed for your test, getting to root of the problem is always a relief. Have a great relaxing weekend!
ReplyDeleteI hope it is the root of the problem, otherwise I am at a loss. The clock was hit and miss this weekend, but I hope it really starts to work.
DeleteI take a daily walk outside during lunch if i can for vitamin d. It helps. Hope the clock works for ya'll.
ReplyDeleteI definitely need to take more walks outside without a jacket. Ha. The clock was hit and miss this weekend.
DeleteI have lots people to suicide too and it is awful. That is a crazy story about Anthony Bourdain at that restaurant! I hope the test comes back with the results you want. It's a little crazy that you'd practically have to get burnt to get enough vitamin D!
ReplyDeleteIt definitely sucks. I hate that it is becoming the norm. Ugh. I hope it comes back soon and I can get on a supplement.
DeleteWent and entered the giveaway! Also, I hope you get the answers you need! I have had similar struggles and B12 and D3 vitamins did the trick! D3 is great for the immune system anyway, so I think just about everyone needs to take it! lol
ReplyDeleteYay. I am so glad. Oh that is great to know. I am getting some supplements in the mean time until I get my results.
DeleteI hope you are able to figure out what is wrong with this latest test!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThat alarm clock looks so cute! I wonder if it would work with my kids. I hope you have a great weekend and can get some answers from your tests.

We are trying it out and so far it has been hit and miss. They did well Friday am, but bad Saturday morning, but great Sunday. Ha. I hope it works itself out.
DeleteMy kids just love that ready to wake alarm...we've been using one for almost 6 months, and we swear by it. They've always been pretty good, but it definitely made them better. Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh that is amazing. So glad that your kids love it. My girls just need to get used to it for sure.
DeleteI have seen wake up clocks out shopping and definitely plan to try one with Zoe when the time comes that we switch her out of her crib. Which probably isn't too far off since girlfriend has fallen out once already! I am deficient in vitamin b-12 and vitamin d and have been taking supplements for years now. It really messes with you bad!! I hope you get the right amount figured out and start to feel better. I have some other health issues that have popped up because of my deficiencies and it is no fun.
