We decided to go full force into on Saturday morning since we worked Friday. So let me back up a bit.
Friday after work, we ran a few errands and then came home to the girls. After some play time, we got the girls ready and headed to pizza for dinner. The girls played in the restaurant and we watched some sports broadcast and happily had our beers and pizza.
After dinner, we drove to a school that is close to home and let the girls play in the playground. They had a ton of fun and didn't want to go home.
After playing we headed home and gave the girls a bath. After getting ready for bed, we snuggled for a bit and then put the girls to bed. We caught up on some shows and called it a night.
Saturday morning was the start of potty training. The girls were excited to wear real underwear. Everything was going pretty well. We asked the girls constantly if they needed to go to the bathroom and we put them on the potty every 30 minutes or so.
They were getting the idea since they have been potty training for awhile, but they would tell us just as they were starting to pee or right before and not in enough time to get to the potty. Avery had one accident in the morning and Sutton had a lot more. Every successful time, they got a M&M and they were pumped on it. But Sutton was very mad when her sister got one and she didn't. That happened a lot.
I headed out at 8:40 to get a pedicure since it was cancelled from the day before. I wasn't too excited to leave the girls since we were going full force into this, but I didn't have much choice. So I happily got my toes done and Rory took care of the girls.
We stayed at home and inside all day long and it was very boring. Ugh. I so wanted to be at the lake, but we really wanted to potty train. Such is the life.
Avery had two accidents Saturday, one in the morning and one right before bedtime. I told her we were going to go to the potty as soon as we found her paci, but if she needed to go, tell me or just run to the bathroom. She decided to pee on her little couch. Ugh. Sutton had many accidents on Saturday, but was still excited when she did go and got her M&M.
Saturday night we had wine after a long day and some take-out.
Sunday morning we got up and were excited to try again, but the girls were not. We still pushed through, put on their underwear and tried. They were doing pretty good. Sutton was going in the potty and so was Avery. Avery even went #2! Then we decided to take a walk since it was still cool enough outside (it was 99 Saturday and 93 yesterday). We made sure to try to go potty before, but Sutton had an accident about a quarter of the way through. She told us she had to pee and then peed. And then she didn't care that she had to walk in it. Ha.
Avery was good to go until the last 10 minutes of the walk. Then she said she had to go and she held it in as long as she could before she went a bit, but not fully.
We got them changed and I headed to the grocery store by our house to get a quick trip in. I came home and apparently they had 2 accidents each in that time. We still pushed on. We made the girls lunch and put them in their pull ups for naptime. Once they got up they didn't want underwear on. They were refusing it. We tried and tried, but nope, they were not having it. So we left them in pull ups and just asked them a lot if they had to go and kept going to the potty just with pull ups on instead of underwear.
And since we had been cooped up and the girls didn't want to wear the underwear, we decided to get out of the house and go to the Discovery Museum. The girls had a blast. We even went to the potty a few times when we were there.
The girls got half way up (way farther than this) and Sutton started to cry. The staff tried to have a kid help get the girls down, but no luck. So I headed up there and it sucked. I am not going to sugarcoat it. There is not enough room for adults in there. Especially tall adults like me. There were areas I couldn't fit through so I had to coach them to get down. I hit my head more times than I can count, had a bunch of kids climbing on me and felt like Reese Witherspoon in Four Christmases. Ha. But I did manage to get the girls down only for them to want to go back up. Nope. Time for the next exhibit.
Percussions
We spent two hours at the museum and closed it down. We took a drive around the city and then headed home to make dinner for the girls. Once they had dinner, I worked on our dinner (which the girls ate that as well). After we ate, we bathed the girls and got everything ready for the week ahead. We tried to do more potty time as well. Once the girls went down, we sat down with a glass of wine and just relaxed, ie did nothing.
We went to bed early since Rory is in Las Vegas for the day teaching a class.
And there was our not so successful potty training weekend. Got any tips on potty training using pull ups or other methods? Send them my way.
How was your weekend?
I am linking up with Biana from B Loved Boston.
Hahahaha, love the Four Christmases reference! I'm cracking up at the thought of Reese trying to get that pregnancy test back from the little girl in the bounce house! Good luck w the potty training, doesn't sound easy.
ReplyDeleteI felt just like that. That is a funny movie too!
DeleteUgh potty training. I FEEL YOU. So, Spencer was doing great until Ryan deployed. Like, he pooed on the potty, told us when he had to go, and now he's a hot mess. He screams when he is brought to the potty. I've heard good things about letting them go bare butt though, or putting them in plain undies for 3 days at home, so I think I might do that. Fingers crossed?!
ReplyDeleteThose wine and happy hours sound very much deserved!! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteUghhhhh potty training isn't fun, all my kids had their fair share of accidents! Just keep at it and they will get it. Even still we put a pull up on Avery for bed every night just in case, but she hasn't peed in it for months so we can probably stop ha. It's so draining though, I feel for you guys!! I'm glad you were able to get out Sunday because it really is so damn boring sitting home and asking your kids if they have to go to the bathroom 24/7! PS - Four Christmases is one my favorite Christmas movies, I literally laugh out loud when I watch it haha
ReplyDeleteIt is a great movie and climbing that cloud thing made me think of it. I was stuck. Ha.
DeleteI saw potty training in the title and I was like UGGGGHHHH. I have nightmares from potty training Jacob. Lol. I honestly don't have any advice for you, I really don't. The only thing I have is to throw a party if nothing else works. That was the only thing that worked for J. Lol.
ReplyDeleteAnd girl, I feel ya on the girls getting stuck on the playground. B had to climb up in a Chick-Fil-A playground once to get Jacob because he got stuck at the top. Lol. It was traumatizing for everyone involved.
Sorry about the potty training, they will get there eventually. It is double hard for you and I feel for you, you deserved that wine. Hope this weekend goes better!
ReplyDeleteCheers to all the wine girl! You've got this <3

Oh man, I dont even want to think about potty training! Ugh!!! Just think, once it finally sticks...it will be so glorious! Until then, stock up on lots of wine.
ReplyDeleteYes, you need wine! I am so so sorry. I think girls are more tough to potty train. I promise, it will happen, lots of positive reinforcement. Hang in there cutie!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Andrea.
DeleteHang in there momma...I know with my nieces, my SIL really focused on the one that was getting it quicker & then when she seemed to get it, the other sister noticed & picked up quicker. But saying that - every kid is different. YOU DO YOU on the training. & really, it all comes down to when the kids just decide, "oh, ok, this is what you do" ;) It'll come. I promise ;)
ReplyDeleteDoes day care help with potty training? We had a lot of success with #babybigtruck and I think a lot of it is because we worked with the day care. We did the M&M thing as well. I can go into more about what we did if you'd like. Let me know!
ReplyDeleteWe just had our first week of PT with Brielana. It was less stressful than I had anticipated but now we're on day 4 of no poop, so stressful again lol. We did the 3 Day training method (no bottoms first day, bottoms second with one 15-30 min walk, full clothes and 30-60 min walk) and bring the travel potty EVERYWHERE. Best of luck!
ReplyDeleteSending lots of good thoughts for potty training, you are a rockstar.
ReplyDeleteOh my! We tried for a big push this past weekend as well... without success. He'd tell me he needed to pee after he started going. Ugh. After the 6th pair of underwear, I gave up and went back to pull ups. I think that was at 11ish. 😳 We'll get it! Right? Haha. I can't even imagine trying to do it with two!
ReplyDeletePotty training is rough!! We have been at it for a few weeks actually..he got sick about five days into it so naturally completely regressed and we had to start over basically. He is pretty much trained on #1 throughout the day and in diapers at night, and won't even TRY #2. I am trying to find the perfect prize/bribe to motivate him but so far nothing is working. My advice is just keep at it..we still consistently ask Jackson if he has to go or make him sit on the potty, and he isn't great at asking to go. BUT he will do a dance and make it obvious he needs to and is holding it. Just have lots of wine on hand ;-)
ReplyDeletePotty training was the absolute worst for me! I'm sorry!
ReplyDeleteUgh potty training can be so tough. I don't want to sound like I am bragging at all or that our method is best, but our boys have been very different with it. We tried and pushed A when he was around 2.5 and he would go here and there but nothing really consistent. The more we pushed the more he reverted so we just backed off. Everyone told us when he's ready he will go. Well sure enough, he woke up one morning, a week after his 3rd birthday, and refused to the leave the house in a pull up. He hasn't ever looked back. My little nugget started going on the potty around 18 months because he wanted to be like A and basically potty trained himself. No prizes, no bribing, nothing. We still put him in a diaper at night so maybe I'll need some pointers with him when we make the full transition.
ReplyDeleteAh drink all the wine! I feel ya on the potty training. Ben can do number two, but peeing is a whole different story. Which I've always heard it's the opposite. He used to go on the toilet and sit, but now we've moved backward where he is literally afraid to sit on the toilet. Ugh. I feel ya!
ReplyDeleteUgh friend. Yeah potty training basically sucks. There really is no fun in it, but I promise it'll get better. Emmy still has accidents, especially when tired or right after leaving the pool. Just don't give up. They'll get it eventually, but also remember that at 2 accidents happen.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh - the potty training!! I don't remember it being that hard, but I think that's because YOU HAVE TWINS. Which is like, at least ten times the work I think!! Sending happy thought for y'all - keep it up, and keep the wine flowing for you, ha!
ReplyDeleteI tried potty training Eliza last week....thought she was ready....she wasn't! Did worse the second day. We are back to diapers and will try again in 2-3 months. It was easy for their older sister and I am hoping when the time is right it will be easy for them too!
ReplyDeleteThat is what I am hoping. We are still trying with pull ups, but not pushing it. I don't want to scare them.
DeletePotty training twins was HARD! My mom did a lot of it in the end (over summer break 2 years ago while we were at work) and it was such a blessing. I love your blog - nice to meet another twin girl mama!
